Whether your ears feel blocked, muffled or just uncomfortable, I’ll start by taking a careful look and explaining what I can see. Then we’ll choose the gentlest way to clear things — usually microsuction, sometimes water irrigation.
I use a small, gentle suction device and a bright magnified view to lift the wax away — no water, no mess, and no poking about. It’s quick, precise, and most people find it completely comfortable. Because it doesn’t flush water into the ear, it suits sensitive ears, perforated eardrums and previous ear surgery where other methods can’t be used.

Sometimes wax is stubborn or very firm, and a gentle, controlled flow of warm water does the job beautifully. It’s nothing like as forceful as the old ‘syringing’, and I’ll only use it when it’s the right choice for your ears. Often I’ll use microsuction first and finish with irrigation if needed.
Using a small camera (video otoscopy), I’ll examine your ear canal and eardrum and talk you through what I can see on the screen. If there’s wax to remove, I’ll remove it. If there’s nothing that needs treating — or if I think you’d be better seen by your GP — I’ll tell you honestly. You’ll never be charged for treatment you don’t need.
Before you come
For the best possible results, I advise using olive oil 2–3 times a day for 3–5 days before your ear wax removal appointment. This helps to soften the ear wax, making it easier and more comfortable to remove while reducing the likelihood of requiring a second treatment.
For ease of application, I recommend Earol Olive Oil Spray, as its spray bottle delivers olive oil directly into the ear canal quickly and effectively.
If an appointment is needed urgently, treatment can still be carried out. However, if the wax is very hard or impacted, it may not be possible to remove it completely during a single visit, and a follow-up appointment may be required.
